Aurora Borealis Oct 10, 2024

We finally got to see it!!! Last night the Aurora Borealis made an unexpected appearance in our area.

We saw a post from someone about an hour north of us that it was visible. So, we quickly grabbed the cameras and hopped in the truck. We head into the desert, just hoping we’d be able to catch a glimpse of it.

Here are some of the better photos. Granted, they’re nothing like what was seen in other parts of the world. But given we weren’t supposed to be able to see it at all in the southern US… we’ll take what we can get.

What appears to be fire in the last photo, is actually headlights captured on night mode with 30sec exposure.

Wonderful, my first view ever was on my birthday. I was so thrilled, I know how you feel finally seeing them. It was extraordinary last night, you are much further south than us. We didn’t see much green, but our sky was red even looking south, south east and west. Happy for you both, there may be others this autumn it is the eleventh year in the suns eleven year cycle. They don’t understand it YET, but the sun sneezes a lot every eleventh year and we get to see the result. Let’s hope our force field holds up.
